Do you ever feel like the sidekick in your friendship? Has your name tag ever been printed "Jamie's friend"? Is your Instagram full of pictures of your friends and.. your elbow. You may be suffering from sidekick-itis. But there is a cure! Come see Next: The Musical (A Sidekick Story).
Next is a heartfelt and honest musical comedy about issues we all face in our lives. It follows the friendship between Zoey, a shy girl who often feels unnoticed, and Abby, the girl that everyone knows and loves.
The concept for the show grew from songs Angela Fox composed for her students. Vocal music for middle and junior high students was limited and often based on unrelatable themes, so she starting creating songs her students could connect to based on issues kids of that age would be dealing with. After a recital, a parent approached her and said "It would be so neat if there was a musical with all these songs in it!" That sparked an idea! Angela started examining her songs and realized many shared a common voice, the voice of the sidekick.
