Great show
I hate mime. I hate clowning. This show, though, won me over with its originality, precision and deft use of sound cues. A highlight of the festival
Company: Mainly Me Productions
Show: A Justice League of Their Own
Venue: Theatre in the Round
Great cast, great writing
A lighter take on the casual misogyny of American popular culture that still had some stinging jokes. The acting was uniformly excellent. I never saw "A League of Their Own," or most of the superhero movies referenced, but I still very much enjoyed this show.
Company: Gabriel Mata/Movements
Show: DREAMING
Venue: Southern Theater
Dream dancing
I loved this show because Gabriel gave just enough spoken word structure to the dances that I could understand (or perhaps construct for myself) a narrative. I thought his dancing was amazing. This is a great Fringe show.
Company: Three Crazy Sons
Show: Flipping Off Our Lord
Venue: Rarig Center Xperimental
Enjoyable, different show
I enjoyed this different take on a coming-of-age story. Rather a kid brought up religious in a small town becoming an urban, sophisticated atheist, it's the reverse journey from childhood atheism to faith. That's a viewpoint not often seen at the Fringe Festival.

Best show of this Fringe?
This was a wonderful show. Angry, funny, well-argued, and fabulously performed. I love the Great American Songbook, but had never fully appreciated how misogynistic and creepy the lyrics often are. After all the music is so beautiful. Now I'll never be able to hear even a song as lovely as "Some Enchanted Evening" again without my skin crawling a bit at the line, "never let her go." And they're right: "Carousel" on Broadway in 2018? Really?
