The Best Couple Fight

I enjoyed this version of Couple Fight way more than the other two I have seen. Normally I go see the show and leave feeling slightly bummed out and annoyed at people's poor communication and arguing skills. This one didn't leave me feeling this way. I wouldn't be able to tell you why. Perhaps the songs helped to keep the arguments from getting to heated. Either way, it was lots of fun and I really enjoyed it. I laughed so much. My favorites I have to be the first one, the room mates, and the last one.

Company: Spaceheater
Show: Saint Ex
Venue: Rarig Center Arena

Beautiful

This show was lovely. One of the most dynamic single performer shows I have ever seen. Nate did an amazing job embodying the characters in different ways. I got a little lost on the story, but I didn't care. Pretty sure it doesn't matter. As it says, it is physical poetry, and no description could be more on point. Lovely show. Go see!

Company: Mainly Me Productions
Show: A Justice League of Their Own
Venue: Theatre in the Round

Oh So Funny

This show was hilarious! Great performances all around! I loved how absurd it was. I particularly loved the 4th wall breaking gags. I didn't hear all the jokes because of all the laughter. Go see it!!

Company: Reliquaries
Show: And What You Find There
Venue: Ritz Theater Studio

A Lot of Heart

I thiiink that this show is by first time producers. It is lovely. There is so much heart in it. Slow at times and perhaps a little unpolished, but truly lovely. If you have time, stop on by and see this lovely show. All three actors are great, but my favorite has to be the woman with the long grey hair. So expressive!

Company: The Coldharts
Show: Eddie Poe
Venue: Ritz Theater Mainstage

Delightful, Per Usual

The Coldharts are great. Super great. I love what they create! This show was not as fun as Edgar Allen, but still delightfully twisted with great music. I still have the diddle song in my head. I feel like it might suffer from pacing issues as there were moments that dragged and got a bit slow and apparently they got cut off in earlier performances. Still a great show. Support these artists. They are great!

Company: Navel Gaze Productions
Show: Fringe Orphans 4: Back in the Habit
Venue: Theatre in the Round

Mini Fringe

This show is like fringe, mini version. Just like the fringe at large, some of the bits were really good, and some were not so good, but overall it was lots of fun. My favorite was the unicorns.

Company: Grand Island Theatre
Show: Hamlet, but Hamlet's a Chicken
Venue: Minnsky Theatre

Hilarious!!!

This show was amazingly stupid (and stupid is a good thing). I loved it so much. That CHICKEN was SO CUTE! AHH!! Really a lot of fun. Super Fringe-y and I'm lovin' it.

Company: Nightfox Stage Productions
Show: My 4 Bodies
Venue: Ritz Theater Studio

Important lessons

Erin did a lovely job in this one-person show. I really love how the playwright was the director, calming any fears I had about an able-bodied person playing this role. It was a bummer that there was script in hand, but whatcha gonna do. A lovely job and a great show!

Company: New Endeavors
Show: The Buttslasher
Venue: Ritz Theater Mainstage

Amusing

This show is fun. Honestly after all the hype from last year I was expecting a bit more. A fun parody with amusing jokes both obvious and not. I loved all the jokes around a certain alcoholic beverage.

Company: Loom Lab
Show: The Middle Keeps Moving
Venue: Southern Theater

Young Company

This piece was created by a bunch of young artists. Their youth in this piece really shows. I do not want to discourage them from creating more art, but I think perhaps an older, more experienced outside eye to advice or even direct might be beneficial. Their heart is truly in the right place, but the show was lacking substance. If I didn't know that it was supposed to be about recovery, I would not have known. Keep creating, keeping working, keep learning.

Company: Hit the Lights! Theater Co.
Show: WHALES

Love it!

This show is so great! Super high energy, ever changing, educational, and funny. Be prepared to have your socks rocked off (really, it gets loud). Highly highly recommended!

Company: Theatre Unbound
Show: A Gertrude Stein Christmas
Venue: Augsburg Mainstage

READ THE NOTE IN THE PROGRAM!

Theatre Unbound took a big risk with this show, and I have a lot of respect for them for that. This devised show really played with language in a very interesting way. Unfortunately, I did not know the way in which it was being played with until after the show when I read the Dramaturg's note. In general I do not think that I show should have to rely on a note in the program in order for it to be understood. The language in the show was in a strange zone of being either too weird or not weird enough. At some moments the language was strange but it made sense, other moments the language seemed to make zero sense. If they would have made the language 100% strange and making zero sense I actually would have appreciated it more. Then it would have been more like watching a show in a foreign language where the story is told through the body and voice inflections rather than the words. Unfortunately the moments of semi-understanable text put the kibosh. Similarly, if it would have been all the semi-understandable text and none of the other type I would have appreciated that as well. I will say that the acting and timing in this show was great. It is hard to get timing so perfect when the words you are saying are so strange. Very lovely job by all the actors. Congrats on everyone for taking this risk. Go see this show! Just be away of what are you getting into. The strangest Christmas show you will see in a while.

Company: JoZanephine Originals
Show: For The Love Of ...
Venue: Southern Theater

Lovely Show

This show was truly lovely. Some really gorgeous moments and stellar acting. Like...really great acting. Super great. It made me tear up at many moments. I don't know if Fringe is quiet the right venue for it. Not upset it is here though. :) Go see this, especially if you have recently dealt with loss.

Company: Oncoming Productions
Show: Geminae
Venue: Southern Theater

Go see this, please.

Amazing. Amazing. Amazing amazing amazing. I loved their show last year, but this one is better. And the abs on that astronaut! Must be quiet the workout. Lovely acting. Lovely physicality. Interesting story. Perfect closing song (a sad hint at what happens next). I just wish there was more space time, because space! Lovely job one and all.

Company: Play-Dot
Show: Midwestworld
Venue: Southern Theater

Did you get the reference?

This show was crazy in a good way. There's no way anyone could predict what would happen next. So many random twists and turns. I would call it absurdist comedy. There were parts that got a little redundant and slow, which is why it is not up to a 4 star. I also feel like a good majority of the jokes were reference based, not just on Westworld, but on a bunch of other things. As a result, if you don't pick up on the reference, you miss the joke. Still super fun and worth seeing. So much energy and so much silliness. And so much Tupperware.

Company: Backyard to Broadway Productions
Show: Right, Wrong or Bomb! A Dating Musical
Venue: Mixed Blood Theatre

A Solid Show

This show is very well put together. Great songs, fun script, wonderful acting/singing. Amusing story, easy to understand concept, and fun characters. This solid show is the kind of musical you could take a non-theatre goer to. However, one might say that it is too safe and not quiet risky enough for Fringe. The singing is super great. Wow! What lovely voices. Unfortunately it was hard to hear them at times. Strange thing is, I could hear them all super well when they were at their more dramatic moments. I feel like focus on acting through dynamics is what caused many moments to be too quiet to be heard. Wonderful show! Bring your friends!

Company: Goof Goof
Show: (a) Normal Theatre Play
Venue: Strike Theater

Super Normal

Fun show. Silly at first then it got serious for a bit before getting silly again. This servious bit went on a bit too long for me. I could have used more silliness and absurdness. Still a wonderful job by the performers and a fun take on the normal show thing.

Company: Sheep Theater
Show: Kaboom
Venue: Rarig Center Thrust

Great fun

Sheep Theater's signature style of stupid humor is once again amazingly well done. Super duper funny. They are getting more females on the stage, which I love to see! They still have a habit of plowing through lines and never ever stopping for laughter, causing lines to be lost. Sit close and be ready to listen through the laughter because you don't want to miss a single moment of this hilarious content. Highly recommended.

Company: The Bearded Company
Show: Swords & Sorcery: The Improvised Fantasy Campaign
Venue: Theatre in the Round

Lots of laughter

This show was great. Super funny and silly. I laughed so hard. Did the guy on the computer do sound AND light cues in the moment?! I'm impressed. I wish I could see the other shows to see how the story unfolds. Hoping the audience suggestion will tie in a bit better as the story progresses. Go see it!

Company: Mysterious Old Radio Listening Society
Show: The Mysterious Old Radio Listening Society Versus the Nazis
Venue: Rarig Center Thrust

Good time

These people are always great. So much talent on the stage! They did a recreation of 2 radio shows. The first one dragged on a bit but had fun characters. The second one had an irritating main character but was delightfully obsurd.
