Company: Tyler West
Show: ABEYANCE
Venue: Strike Theater

Poor Tyler

Hard working mime with amusing audience participation.

Company: The Winding Sheet Outfit
Show: Blood Nocturne
Venue: Southern Theater

Good old days

Even though I had seen a movie about her I was inspired to do further research. Art that inspires. Great performance by Emily Dussault

Company: minnerican productions
Show: Broken English, Mother Tongue
Venue: Mixed Blood Theatre

Mom, Dad, Puerto Rico

Well done solo show

Company: Red Dice Collective
Show: Cyrano on the Moon
Venue: Ritz Theater Studio

Still famous

Cyrano is more famous than Moliere today. Extremely uncomfortable chairs and poor sightlines at the Ritz studio might have negatively impacted my experience of the show.

Company: Wayward Theatre Company
Show: Far Away by Caryl Churchill
Venue: Rarig Center Arena

What?

Talk about inaccessible art. I had no idea what this was about. Nevertheless the band was good and the scene changes seemed like choreographed ballet.

Company: Crone Productions
Show: JEANNETTE RANKIN: CHAMPION OF PERSISTENCE
Venue: Augsburg Studio

Nothing has changed

Nice job but the tragedy of the play is that nothing has changed. If women suffrage came up for a vote today it would be defeated by a coalition of republicans and big business.

Company: Theatre Corrobora
Show: Rejection
Venue: Augsburg Mainstage

Relationships

For me Margo was the only interesting character

Company: Rooftop Theatre Company
Show: The Complete Works of William Shatner (abridged)
Venue: Mixed Blood Theatre

James t kirk

Amusing premise, amusing show that could have used a tighter script.

Company: Beardog Productions
Show: The Things They Carried
Venue: Ritz Theater Studio

Vietnam

I thought he did a great job and the material was intriguing.but my mind wandered during the performance.

Company: Philip Simondet
Show: Self-Titled Debut Album
Venue: Mixed Blood Theatre

Jukebox musical

I wanted to like this play. He is a great songwriter. The music was terrific but like all jukebox musicals, a story is made up to string the songs together and in this case it didn't work. But don't fret the music is good.

Company: Literally Entertainment
Show: The Great Canadian Maple Syrup Heist or, Ocean's 'Eh'T?: A Musical
Venue: Mixed Blood Theatre

Hockey time

That's how to put on a fringe musical. The story and the music move the action forward in a seamless fashion Tthe humor is generally interspersed and genuinely funny And the actors treat their characters with respect even the moose.

Company: Monster Science Productions
Show: What To Do In Case Of Dinosaur Attack
Venue: Mixed Blood Theatre

Unfamiliar references

The science was interesting. The slide show pictures were interesting. It might have been a good show. I was just never interested in his references- Jurassic Park and superhero comic books.

Company: Fearnot Dance
Show: Stark Dance: Politics Religion Sex
Venue: Ritz Theater Mainstage

TV sign off

High intensity dancing . I couldn't take my eyes off the stage. I liked the show enough that I'll probably go see the whole show in October.

Company: Life-sized Meme Productions
Show: The Moirologist
Venue: Ritz Theater Mainstage

I'm sorry for your loss

Odd, interesting show.

Company: The Skyline Collective
Show: Wasn't This Supposed to Be a Musical?
Venue: Ritz Theater Mainstage

Do you like art

This could have been an interesting play. However the music seemed to stop the forward flow of the story. I would have liked the story better without the music.

Company: Hit the Lights! Theater Co.
Show: WHALES
Venue: Ritz Theater Mainstage

Welcome aboard

Fun show. An enthusiastic cast does music, comedy, puppetry, history and audience participation. Included in the cast were a great fiddlers and a great guitarists The bits were funny I was even included in one, but the shows highlight was the sea shanty sung by the three women

Company: Bittersweet Arts Co.
Show: Forsythian Dweller's Club
Venue: Rarig Center Xperimental

Corporate consultant

This actually was a horror show. Well done but i was frightened when I left the theater. tThe cast did a uniformly great job in the plots transformation.

Company: Oncoming Productions
Show: Geminae
Venue: Southern Theater

Space walk

Great special effects and background ambience. I'm not a big fan of science fiction or horror but good story telling and great acting cross off genre lines . Quality is quality.

Company: FredPictures
Show: The Breakfast Club: The Musical!
Venue: Southern Theater

Good "parody"

I'm glad to see there was someone who was willing to hire Charlie Sheen. Cast was excellent in conveying the plot but I'm still not a big fan of opera. I like some spoken exposition

Company: Mysterious Old Radio Listening Society
Show: The Mysterious Old Radio Listening Society Versus the Nazis
Venue: Rarig Center Thrust

Radio Radio

Well done as usual with a stellar cast, but nothing really new. I liked the first story more that the second story. Radio is best listened to late at night , alone.

Company: On the Verge Theatre
Show: Boobilicious
Venue: Augsburg Studio

Stacked

short, light ,humorous

Company: Deacon Gamzee Productions
Show: ILLINOIS BOY BLUES
Venue: Augsburg Studio

Illinois

Strong performance by Khalil Muhammad, but the story was a little hard to follow at times.

Company: Foxlin
Show: Next: The Musical (A Sidekick Story)
Venue: Augsburg Studio

The future of theater

The future of theater is in good hands. The two leads were multi talented the story was simple but poignant. The music listenable. I'm encouraged about the future of theater.

Company: Blinking Eye Theatre
Show: Swipe Right
Venue: Augsburg Mainstage

Tinder

The bed scene Is one of the funniest scenes I've ever seen in the fringe. Humor about dating which retrospectively is more fun looking back on than experiencing. This a new young company that appears to have a bright future.

Company: Mainly Me Productions
Show: A Justice League of Their Own
Venue: Theatre in the Round

Frantic

This is a generous 4 stars. The show had a lot going for it. It was fast paced, frenetic, high energy, humorous, great choreography and special effects, action and a social statement. However there was too much material for an hour show. The dialog was incredibly face paced and almost impossible to comprehend. While slowing it down would damage the intensity I think some tweaks could be done to make the show more accessible and more enjoyable.

Company: Schmidtshow Productions
Show: LAKES 4
Venue: Theatre in the Round

Sculpture garden

Lots of local references which were fun but the show just didn't click for me. I never got involved in her "crisis"and the other characters with exception of the fitness instructor were uninteresting. Character development is difficult in a 45 minute comedy but without some there is nothing to care about.

Company: WalthWorks
Show: Locker Room Talk
Venue: Rarig Center Arena

Basketball

Ok Good music accompaniment. I like Kevin Brown but the show seemed a little miscast and a little too simplistic.

Company: Backyard to Broadway Productions
Show: Right, Wrong or Bomb! A Dating Musical
Venue: Mixed Blood Theatre

Fun dating

This is not the best show but i enjoyed it immensely. So what is the difference. I want to be entertained and engaged and I certainly was entertained and engaged. It had a great lead ,great cast, lyrics I could understand on the first listening, subtle but effective music accompaniment, great staging and just an all around good time feeling.

Company: GIRL Theatre
Show: Gay Hot American Summer
Venue: Rarig Center Arena

Camp

I liked the individual performances but i didn't like the play.

Company: Tom Reed
Show: Gunplay!
Venue: Mixed Blood Theatre

Poker faced Tom Reed

Tom Reed's reaction takes were priceless. Great ensemble. I especially liked Lauren Anderson's 3 performances and Adelin Phelps was outstanding and totally believable as stressed teacher and smitten woman.

Company: Mosaic Productions
Show: Hidden in This Picture
Venue: Rarig Center Arena

Potential

I thought of Seinfeld. A bunch of self absorbed characters talking about nothing. I know I'm criticizing Adam Sorkin but if the director could have been a little more likable I would have rooted for her. Nevertheless the play was saved by the witty repartee between the writer and director

Company: Sheep Theater
Show: Kaboom
Venue: Rarig Center Thrust

laughing a tragedy

I laughed from the first second. but the message came across loud and clear.

Company: Quasimondo Physical Theatre
Show: Mrs. Wrights
Venue: Rarig Center Xperimental

Frank's love life

I was confused for the first half of this show even with a knowledge of frank Lloyd Wright's women but the coat dance and the remainder of the show were engaging.

Company: Say It Loud Productions
Show: Revolt of the Beavers
Venue: Mixed Blood Theatre

Good message

I feel asleep in the first half which is never a good commercial for a play but the rousing finale left me with a good feeling about this show

Company: Flash Grenade Productions
Show: The Flashlight Zone: 20 Science Fiction Plays in One Hour
Venue: Theatre in the Round

Lots of stories

Good Idea.I liked the performers but as soon as the show was over I could barely remember a single story.

Company: The Rest of Us
Show: An Odyssey Backwards and in Heels
Venue: Minnsky Theatre

Friendship

The music and the lyrics were great. Great energy from the ensemble but the book was a little bit confusing. Overall it was enjoyable and worth seeing.

Company: MonTra Performance
Show: Aphrodite's Refugees
Venue: Rarig Center Xperimental

Personal refugee stories

Important theme but the presentation did not appeal to me at all. When she talked I listened when she did her accents I thought about the weather.

Company: MaryMackComedy.com
Show: BurnOut County
Venue: Minnsky Theatre

Northern Wiisconsin

She's a total pro and he was just as funny. Even the tech moving the microphone was cracking up. And so was I.

Company: ... and company
Show: Chapter 23
Venue: Minnsky Theatre

not completely finished

I had seen one of the dances in workshop and the finished product was an enhancement. Other dances seemed to still be in the workshop phase. Nice effort but please continue to work on these pieces.

Company: Weggel-Reed Productions
Show: Couple Fight: The Musical!
Venue: Rarig Center Thrust

Ambitious

They took a chance with this tried and true comedy format and pulled it off spectacularly ( except for a frightening fall) Who knew the twin cities comedy talent could also sing?

Company: Fearless Comedy Productions
Show: Deep in The 100 Acre Woods: A "Pooh"-dunnit?
Venue: Minnsky Theatre

Detective robin

Murder mystery with our favorite characters.

Company: Gabriel Mata/Movements
Show: DREAMING
Venue: Southern Theater

Hope for happy dreams

The first dance, the last dance and when Mr Mata shows his personality and demonstrates how he constructs a dance, you can't take your eyes off him but the rest was a little bit trying.

Company: Navel Gaze Productions
Show: Fringe Orphans 4: Back in the Habit
Venue: Theatre in the Round

Great ideas

Worth seeing for gay dating 101 but the other skits were great ideas not fully realized.

Company: Grand Island Theatre
Show: Hamlet, but Hamlet's a Chicken
Venue: Minnsky Theatre

Shakespeare reinterpreted

Great talented cast hitting on all cylinders, even the chicken never missed a cue, all while spouting Shakespeare. Classic and brand new.

Company: Colleen Somerville Productions
Show: Not Fair, My Lady!
Venue: Mixed Blood Theatre

Women in Theater

Great individual talent in a humorous but spot on indictment of the show business that to makes its point without man bashing and still displaying a love of the theater.

Company: Custer & Schmidt
Show: Our Best Life
Venue: Rarig Center Thrust

Solo not by choice

Shanon Custer can do a solo show but it really isn't her best showcase. She pulled it off and was very funny at times but I'd rather see her interact with others.

Company: Ruckus Productions
Show: Sidesplitting
Venue: Theatre in the Round

Comedy/horror

Young energetic cast in a frantic over the top send up of low budget horror. I hope the tent makes the entire run.

Company: Sidecar Theatre
Show: Summers in Prague
Venue: Rarig Center Arena

Adult

Mesmerizing. A well written character study where both characters change. Great acting in an intimate setting with 5 costume changes equals a sublime evening of theater.
