Company: Fearless Comedy Productions
Show: Deep in The 100 Acre Woods: A "Pooh"-dunnit?
Venue: Minnsky Theatre
Not really comedy, not really noire
If you think this is going to be a zany comedic spin on a classic noire (and with this title you probably do) you may want to adjust expectations. Surprisingly few laughs in a piece taken a little too seriously to be a comedy and a little too loosely to be a real compelling murder mystery. Had a slow start and some weaker performances, though Eeyore and Rabbit were standouts
Company: Bollywood Dance Scene
Show: BollyProv: NOT a Dance Drama!
Venue: Ritz Theater Mainstage
Great but not what I was expecting
I loved the dancing from this company in the past. Improv and storytelling was fun but uneven in places
Company: Custer & Schmidt
Show: Our Best Life
Venue: Rarig Center Thrust
When life gives you lemons
Right from the start Custer breaks it to you that this two woman show was forced to he a one woman show super last minute. As a result, this show is less an exercise in good writing and sketch work as it is a vehicle for Custer, who keeps the whole thing going by sheer force of charisma. It's really funny stuff, but you can still tell that there's a better show it wanted to be.
Company: Sidecar Theatre
Show: Summers in Prague
Venue: Rarig Center Arena
So charming
This is not a fringey show. This is an honest to god play that we get to see for cheap. It's a lovely story that's well acted throughout. The kind of thing youd expect at a professional venue. Thumbs up!
Company: Flash Grenade Productions
Show: The Flashlight Zone: 20 Science Fiction Plays in One Hour
Venue: Theatre in the Round
Science Fiction On Crack!!
I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. Each play is about 3 minutes long and so different from one another. As soon as you figure out one play, the next one has already started. Impossible to get too comfortable or bored. Might have to see this one again!
