Extra! Extra! Seats in the theater!
This was such a miss. While the cast earnestly tried to sell the story, it really never managed to get on its feet. If it was supposed to be a political statement it was hack and overplayed. The "jokes" hit stale air and I rarely heard a solid laugh from the crowd, and I'll admit to physically cringing. My jaw dropped when I realized how ham-fisted the sexist depiction of the female characters truly was. A woman literally dies because she tried to voice her opinion. It was Devil Wears Prada, but somehow not developing its female characters beyond very disappointing stereotypes: bitch and martyr. Most of the jokes were in poor taste and juvenile, culminating in an almost apologetic delivery of the line "God is dead, and so's the news". I felt so bad for all the actors it was physically uncomfortable. I wanted so badly to like it, but it honestly was such a mess.

SO FUNNY
As a kid, I loved Scooby Doo. This is basically a grown-up Scooby Doo episode, but only kind of grown-up. There is feminism. There are teenage hormones. There are many, many, many wonderful and ~*sidesplitting*~ jokes. I laughed so hard I think I was disturbing the group I went with. Worth every second and every penny. Brava to the writer, the director, and the actors.
