Show: Martin Dockery: Delirium
Venue: Rarig Center Thrust

Brilliant!

This show is expertly crafted. This show is like looking at a spiderweb with a flashlight. Martin holds the flashlight and shows you one string at a time. At first, they appear unconnected, but by the end, you see the entire web lit up and glittering in the light. He deals with love and loss - not in the ways you would expect. It is really beautiful. A must see, especially for playwrights and solo performers.

Company: One Dance Company
Show: She Says, "ENOUGH!"
Venue: Augsburg Studio

Who run the world?

Girls, obviously. I'm not usually a dance person, but this show had me choked up by the end of the first number. There is something really beautiful and moving about seeing that many women of different shapes, sizes and ages moving together and supporting one another. These strong women dance to both words and music. While some of the transitions were a bit abrupt, I liked the message.

Company: The Herd
Show: I Killed the Cow

You are not alone

This nonlinear performance explores the feelings and questions after a sexual assault, while tying in vegan values. It is more of a visceral experience than a story, but plays with lots of the questions survivors and coming-of-age girls ask. If you need to know that you are not alone or want to learn more about what consent is and is not, this show goes there in a totally unique way.

Company: The Adventures of Les Kurkendaal
Show: Walking While Black in Moscow
Venue: Ritz Theater Studio

Raw Storytelling

Les has become a fixture in the MN Fringe, and audiences love him. Part of his charm is that he is so casual, he sounds like he could be talking to his best friends (the entire audience) over coffee. Fans of Les will not be disappointed! This show is similar to his other shows - low-tech, conversational, funny, and connected.

Company: Jamie Brickhouse
Show: Dangerous When Wet: Booze, Sex, and My Mother
Venue: Augsburg Studio

See this show!!!

This is Jamie's first time in the MN Fringe, but I hope it won't be his last! This show is funny, heartfelt, and honest. Each word is carefully chosen - the metaphors alone are worth the ticket price! Jamie paints clear pictures of each character in his life, and makes you care about everyone involved, from his first-grade boyfriend, to a random guy he saw at the pool. Unfortunately, Jamie got cut off by fringe staff - two minutes before his time was up! This disrupted the momentum of the show, and threw us all off for a short time. Two minutes passed, and she was back, starting to clear the theatre. I get the fringe's policy about not going over 60 minutes, but when the overage is caused (at least in part) by staff, I would think they would be a little more understanding... All that being said, I talked to Jamie after the show, and he said he won't be going over again. If you are a fan of honest, carefully-crafted one-person shows, this is for you! If you also happen to be a child of the 60's or 70's, you will love it even more. As word gets out about Jamie, houses will be filling up. Add this show to your list.
