Beautiful, moving, feminist AF
The Womyn's Mysteries is here to raise up sisterhood and tell it like it is. From The Beginning the agenda is clear: to remind us that women have been maligned and cast as secondary since time immemorial. The performance uses the Bible as a jumping-off point, but never truly disrespects its source material (although my favorite part, God as a performative bro, was pretty irreverent). A beautiful look at the stories of women and how they have perhaps been twisted and misinterpreted over time. I appreciated the moments of modernity and thoughtfulness with regard to intersectionality, the closeness the cast shared, and the thought-provoking look at how words and language can change a person's story. To be honest, what I expected was something off-kilter and weird, but what I got was affecting, meaningful, and much-needed. Thanks, Seesaw Theater Lab!
