Nicely done!

The show poked fun at the Marvel / DC film franchises & deconstructed misogyny, so it was a win-win there. Good performances and plenty of wit made it a Fringe show worth seeing. Definitely would recommend!

Company: Dilettante
Show: Brogonauts
Venue: Rarig Center Thrust

Good potential, but missed the mark

This show has a fine premise, good casting & silly names - seemingly a formula for space comedy success (a la Spaceballs). It was enjoyable, however several issues got in the way, such as poor audio mixing (were the vocal leads' mics on?), some confusing plot points, and total mystery about what Brogonauts are -- & more importantly, why their musical & comedic talents weren't utilized until over halfway through the show.

Company: Weggel-Reed Productions
Show: Couple Fight: The Musical!
Venue: Rarig Center Thrust

Strong Contender for Best Fringe Musical

Couple Fight captures the (comedic) turmoil of relationships with honesty and wit. Strong vocal performances, a diverse range of relationships, & (mostly) relatable situations make for a great show. Highly recommend.

Company: Tom Reed
Show: Gunplay!
Venue: Mixed Blood Theatre

Everything Tom Reed Touches Turns to (Comedy) Gold

Tom Reed & cast (Lauren, Meredith et. al) nail the absurdity of today's gun violence debacle. I laughed, I cried (inside); the writing & performances were excellent. There was even a touch of romance! Much more enjoyable than actual high school. Well-deserved 5 stars.

Company: Play-Dot
Show: Midwestworld
Venue: Southern Theater

Great name, disappointing narrative

Midwestworld had some clever moments, but as in other reviews, I felt it relied on referential humor a bit too heavily. Normally this wouldn't be a deal breaker, but the show's plot / coherence also unraveled completely about 2/3 through, which made it hard to finish. The show also seemed to get lost on the huge stage (probably not the actors' / writers' fault - not sure how Fringe placement works). Tupperwares flying from offstage was a nice touch but no amount of hot dish could push this to a 4 or 5 in my book. Maybe I didn't have the right mindset for this one?

Company: The Bearded Company
Show: Swords & Sorcery: The Improvised Fantasy Campaign
Venue: Theatre in the Round

Bearded Company Does It Again!

The Beards have outdone them selves - again! S&S was phenomenal at last year's Fringe and this year it's no different. I'm going a 2nd time because I can't get enough of their unparalleled humor and wit. The best improvisers in Mpls in my opinion, their long form improv D&D show draws the audience in from the first joke to the episode's climax, which is accessible to everyone (though nerds will appreciate it even more). Easy 5 stars.
