"Par-a-docks, get it?"
After seeing this show, I wasn't sure how I felt. I laughed a lot, but I still didn't know if it was for me or not. I kept thinking about it over the next day and decided I really enjoyed this piece. It's absurd and surreal in a way I personally wasn't familiar with. It had some qualities that reminded me of Beckett? I'm not really sure how to describe it. Have to see it for yourself.

Show: Hamlet, but Hamlet's a Chicken
Venue: Minnsky Theatre
Certainly didn't chicken out!
Funny concept that meanders too long. Hamlet's a chicken, and a really really cute chicken. Each scene starts with energy and a new- funnier on the page- idea. I laughed, but as soon three rolls in and you catch the game and it doesn't surprise you with challenging or interesting ideas.
Company: Life-sized Meme Productions
Show: The Moirologist
Venue: Ritz Theater Mainstage
I haven't laughed like that at a funeral.
Such a dark profession to explore, and The Moirologist doesn't revel in easy jokes. It gives you sharp turns into a cul-de-sac of guilty giggles. The actor who played the brother was such a tremendous joy to watch, he's on stage a large portion of the show and I still wanted more. Maybe a little too emotionally heavy handed towards the end, but it mixed comedy and drama very well in such a limited time frame.

Puppets and Punk Rock Set Sail!
The shadow puppetry in this piece is beautifully done. It has folksy heart with a punk rock bite that makes you want to pull the cork out of a bottle of whiskey and then pour that whiskey into a spot of tea. Cool historical facts- like seriously cool fascinating facts- delivered in an energetic way that you at times wondering where you've put your red solo cup. This show is a party everybody is invited to.
