Ricki Douglas - Wow!!
A beautifully mounted, true-life search for her father. Ricki's original story, original music, and engaging 'patter' all blend effectively to tell her heartfelt story of the angst of adoption. Her telling is rich with entertaining Mpls detail that never overwhelms. The character related costumes, props, dance, and authentic colloquial accents color the story's 'Sturm und Drang' with charm, pathos and delight. Those flashing, darting and riveting eyes make you feel she is always talking especially to you. Her love of an audience and her impactful energetic delivery rivets, embraces and infectiously holds one's attention. Ricki's powerful stage presence flips to a heart-engaging vulnerability when she sings the powerful closing song "He is Here." It is easy to identify with the universality of the human condition tucked so artfully in this worth-to-be-seen, one-woman journey to a lost father. There's one blemish in this Fringe Festival offering: Strike Theater's sound design! This writer realizes this is Fringes's use of the Strike Theater venue. However, this sound issue needs to be seriously evaluated for next year's Festival. With all the above taken into account, this story, song and patter is a great Fringe Festival hour. Do not miss it!
