Show: Adventures While Black in Great Britain
Venue: Rarig Center Thrust

Les Steps Up

It was great that Les stepped up to replace a less than desirable show. His material is always frantic and fresh, and he's simply a joy to watch. His material is smart and fresh, and he delivers with gusto. Oh, but don't EVER date this guy if you don't want to be the subject of a Fringe show! LOVELY

Company: Mysterious Old Radio Listening Society
Show: Frankenstein: Two Centuries
Venue: Rarig Center Thrust

Always good fun

I've seen this group several times, and they never disappoint! They bring us another great performance, this time with some original material. Loved it!

Company: The Importance Of Being Fotis
Show: Kind Of Funny But Also A Little Sad
Venue: Theatre in the Round

Great way to end the Fringe

This was my 55th (out of 55) and final show of Fringe 2019, and it was a great one. Lots of laughter and nice original material. Boersma and Fotis were great together, and Meyer just added to the fun!

Company: My Town Improv
Show: Multiverse
Venue: Rarig Center Xperimental

Very entertaining

This one was a crazy wild ride. Very funny and easy to follow, their improv skills are superb. The entire cast worked well together, sharing the stage in all their antics. Highly enjoyable!

Company: no way theatre
Show: Plaid Tales
Venue: Rarig Center Thrust

Really nice show

The cast is talented and the script is sweet. I really enjoyed this one, despite the drawn out scene changes and quick wrap-up-the-story ending. The leads play off each other well and all give strong performances. This show is deserving of a full production. Nicely done!

Company: Human Beans
Show: War Stories
Venue: Augsburg Studio

Uneven but intriguing

This show needs a little work, but there's a lot here. I enjoyed their performances, despite the long scene changes and awkward transitions. There's some great material here and I hope they keep working on this piece! Very talented cast!

Company: Community Power MN
Show: Carbon Man-Dating: A Climate themed Gay Romantic Comedy
Venue: Augsburg Studio

Was it important

This show has an important topic, but was treated with nothing but puns. Another in the "readers theater" entries, the performance was slow as we continually waited for the actor to find his place on the pages.

Company: Foxhill Studios
Show: Into the Ditch
Venue: Augsburg Studio

Nicely done

This is a nice show, with a compelling script and some fine performances. I enjoyed the journey this show took, and it gave me much to think about.

Company: Rough Magic Performance Company
Show: Measure4Measure
Venue: Southern Theater

Beautiful performance

I really loved this take on M4M. Stellar performances by the entire cast, most notably Mo Perry and Taj Ruler. It's a fine production fit into the Fringe timeslot.

Company: Snikt! Bamf! Thwip!
Show: The Lunch Bunch
Venue: Theatre in the Round

Mesmerizing

This is a really great show, with a strong script and superb cast. Excellent performances by each actor make this update to The Breakfast Club totally engaging. Nice job!

Company: The Salvage Project
Show: Write Me a Song
Venue: Augsburg Studio

Entertaining

This was kind of fun. I enjoyed watching/listening to his process for creating a song. The end result was nice!

Company: Devious Mechanics
Show: Edith Gets High
Venue: Rarig Center Arena

Totally worth a reservation

Overall, this is my favorite show so far this year (haven't missed a time slot yet). The clever script is funny and quite imaginative. The cast is incredibly talented and work well together. Shout-outs to Keith Hovis for the incredibly catchy score, Debra Berger for her beautiful voice and leading the cast, as well as Allison Witham's fine direction. If you get the chance, definitely see this one!

Company: Octopus Inc
Show: Overtime: Men at Work
Venue: Augsburg Mainstage

Nice performances

The gender reversal really didn't work for me on this one. Although the performances were nice, as a whole, I don't think the piece really worked. The toxic masculinity theme is big this year, and I've had the chance to some nice works where it was well represented, but I left this show with nothing to take away.

Company: The Theatre Cosmic
Show: Stuck in an Elevator with Patrick Stewart II: The Wrath of Fandom
Venue: Rarig Center Arena

Nice ride

I loved the first one, so really enjoyed revisiting the updated story. The script was interesting and the cast were all great, most notably Tanaya Walker. The show is quick-paced and fun to follow.

Company: Schroedinger's Dog
Show: The Late Great Uncle Danforth
Venue: Augsburg Mainstage

Rather read the will

Conceptually, this should have been much better. Another entry into the "readers theater" category, the script was in hand and was an unfortunate crutch. Unrehearsed, and pretty uninteresting.

Company: Andrew Erskine Wheeler
Show: Booth's Ghost
Venue: Ritz Theater Mainstage

Moody Piece

Enjoyable, this historical piece is nicely done, and I learned a lot more of the Booth family. Wheeler delivers a strong performance, engrossing the audience the throughout. Highly recommended.

Company: Good Evening Theatre Company
Show: Hidden Dragons
Venue: Ritz Theater Studio

Fantastic

I loved this one - really, everything about it. Zappa's impressive script was presented by an extremely talented cast. They had good chemistry and played well off each other, with strong performances throughout the entire piece. Highly recommended!

Company: Jezebel Theater Company
Show: Reclaiming My Time
Venue: Crane Theater

Powerful

Each the individual experiences, as told one at a time, is strong on its own, but all together makes for a powerful show. I enjoyed the entire casts performances and the raw, vulnerability of it all.

Company: Plucky Rosenthal
Show: Songs To Caftan In
Venue: Strike Theater

Returning to the scene of the crime!

I've seen Plucky before, and she just doesn't disappoint. This one is good, silly fun. She has a great voice and commands the stage, delivering a clever and very entertaining show. Check it out!

Company: the semi-permanent tattoos
Show: Apartment, Darling
Venue: Ritz Theater Studio

Sweet and Touching

I enjoyed the majority of the script, although the introduction of the main character was not real clear (to me) in the beginning. The cast does a nice job creating the mood of the piece, although a tad under-rehearsed.

Company: Shrieking Harpies
Show: The Shrieking Harpies
Venue: Strike Theater

A Hysterical Fun Time

I've seen The Shrieking Harpies before, and returned for the fun. This talented cast and their accompanist do a fantastic job pulling this crazy improve show together, each performance being culled from audience suggestions. Always a good time and a laugh-riot!

Company: DangerVision Productions
Show: Visitation
Venue: Crane Theater

Oddly Beautiful

Coming from a family that truly puts the FUN in FUNERAL, I enjoyed the uneasiness of this show. All the awkward moments and sick humor ring true. Fine performances throughout. I docked a full point for the ending of the show, which was performed much too quietly (I was even in the 1st row), and brought the piece down, not giving it a solid ending. Great script.

Company: an alleged Theatre Company
Show: Which Middle Name of 'Philip Seymour Hoffman' are YOU?
Venue: Ritz Theater Studio

Quick and Fun

This one is fast-paced, and the cast has a great time with it. I'm not a fan of the "which one" memes, so this show was not that interesting to me. I appreciated the enthusiasm in which it was performed, and the fun multiple-choice questions.

Company: Fifth Wheel Productions
Show: Ancient Future Division: Battle for the Existence Yeti
Venue: Southern Theater

Amazing performances

I really loved this one, as it took me on a journey. I had no idea which way this was going, but I was engrossed the entire time. These three gentleman are fine performers, and their talent shined throughout the entire show. Nicely done!

Company: Maximum Verbosity
Show: Get Thee Behind Me, Santa: An Inexcusably Filthy Children's Time-Travel Farce for Adults Only
Venue: Rarig Center Xperimental

Nice performance

I really am not liking performances read from a script, which seems to be a trend this year. Although there is plenty of energy, and he has a wonderful voice, the presence was lacking due to following along with the script.

Company: Monster Science Productions
Show: How To Come Back From The Dead
Venue: Mixed Blood Theatre

Always fun

I enjoyed this one, but not nearly as much as the dinosaur one from least year. Matt is always entertaining, and did laugh quite a bit. I don't know that the piece needed the assistant, as it didn't really add anything to the show, but I guess it was a nice change.

Company: Ian McCarthy, Michael McKitt, Domino D'Lorion
Show: STOOPIDITY
Venue: Rarig Center Xperimental

The Absurdity

Although there were a few clever moments, most of this show is dry and uninteresting. The story in and of itself is interesting enough, but the production seemed to just drag along.

Company: Michael Rogers
Show: Chorus
Venue: Rarig Center Thrust

Sweet Nostalgia

This was a real nice show with some great performances, both choral and acting. Although I found the script to be more somber that it should have been (in my day, touring was an absolute blast and a laugh riot most of the time), I still found it quite touching and heartfelt.

Company: Sam Kruger
Show: Fool Muun Komming! [BeBgWunderful/YEsyes/4sure.Hi5. TruLuv;Spank Spank:SOfun_Grate_Times]
Venue: Mixed Blood Theatre

Fringe Fare All The Way

I've heard people compare Sam Kruger to Robbin Williams, and they're right. His physical body movements are amazing, and he's a joy to watch. This show is eccentric, fast-paced, and incredibly captivating! Catch this one!

Company: Silver Slipper Productions
Show: Queer Circus
Venue: Rarig Center Arena

Feast For the Eyes

This nicely polished show is a great representation of burlesque, with quite the variety of acts, all of which are wonderful on their own. The costumes are gorgeous, the talent very real, the music quirky and fun... all the makings of a visually beautiful show. Highly recommended.

Company: Literally Entertainment
Show: The Scranton Strangler: An Office Musical
Venue: Rarig Center Thrust

Entertaining

This is basically just a fun show all-around. The cast does a nice job and the script is with the silliness of it all. I'm sure I missed a lot of The Office references, as I've never seen that, but there is certainly plenty to laugh at.

Company: shelby company
Show: All is Bright
Venue: Mixed Blood Theatre

Completely engaging

This show is the most polished of all that I've seen so far, and the cast is completely committed to the script. The script doesn't take you on more than a "day in the life of", but it is well written and finely executed, and I felt deeply for each of the characters. NICE

Company: Haute Dish Productions
Show: Chisago: The Musical
Venue: Rarig Center Thrust

Good Fun, U Betcha!

Where would Fringe be without the token Minnesohhhhhta show? This is lots of fun and everything I thought it would be. Great local references, nice choreography, and who doesn't want a singing, dancing Paul Bunyan!

Company: Flavorade Foucault
Show: Good Friday the 13th
Venue: Mixed Blood Theatre

Major Disappointment

I went to this one because I loved their 2017 entry and how much fun that one was. This show was nothing like it, and a complete let down. The script was lame, and the execution was phoned in. I found very little humor at all. Although I felt there was some nice talent on the stage, this show did nothing to flatter them. Skip it.

Company: Broken Box Mime Theater
Show: Quiet Riot
Venue: Augsburg Mainstage

I Love to Hate Mimes

Who doesn't? But these actors bring life to the stories, and really are hard to take your eyes off of. The show is smart, fast-paced, and very entertaining.

Company: Marie Cooney ,(previously "R. Wit Productions")
Show: Stories by Marie Cooney & Guests
Venue: Augsburg Studio

Great GLBT Themed Show

I loved the various GLBT stories woven together in this show. Each one had a fairly fresh angle and was fascinating to hear. I'm not a fan of anyone reading from a script (seems disingenuous ), so those that told their stories unscripted seemed much stronger. I want to see the sock puppet pictures (Gabby!!!)

Company: Storyland Magic Carpet
Show: Super Drag Story Time
Venue: Barker Center for Dance

Charming and Happy

What I loved most about this show was how the cast made the children in the audience feel. Everyone was having a good time, and this piece is just good clean fun. Loved the costumes and characters. It's really a sweet show.

Company: Breaker/Fixer Productions
Show: A Confederate Widow In Hell
Venue: Southern Theater

Fascinating

Skillfully told and moody, this piece reminds us of our history and in many ways, how we got to where we are today. The story is engaging and hauntingly beautiful. Well done.

Company: LC creations
Show: Botanical Dancing
Venue: Southern Theater

Nicely done

This troupe presents a nice variety of dance, with unique visuals. Most notably, the use of paint on the live canvas was quite creative. I hope to see more from this group in the future.

Company: Tom Reed
Show: Game of Toms: One-Man Game of Thrones
Venue: Rarig Center Thrust

So THAT'S what the show is about

I've never seen, GOT, and no longer feel the need to. I have a hunch this show is much better than anything that happened on screen. Anything Tom Reed does is fun and creative, and this show is no exception. Chock full of laughs, his material is original and very clever. Don't miss this one!

Company: Marvel Ann Theatre
Show: Mighty Real
Venue: Augsburg Mainstage

Sweet but unrehearsed

I so wanted to like this one more, as I do love the cast, and the script is a nice time capsule of GLBT history. This one seemed quite unrehearsed, as lines and blocking were clunky, and pacing was a bit slow. There were definitively some nice moments and each actor had his moment to shine. And who amongst us (of a certain age) haven't had that same conversation about Brett Somers?? I'm hoping this one picks up, as it really is a sweet show.

Company: Wandering Jew Productions
Show: Operation: Immigration
Venue: Mixed Blood Theatre

Great Story

Avi is a wonderful, storyteller. The script is a strong and a great insight to what makes him tick. Presented with charm, humor, and much flair, I was totally engrossed in this piece. Highly recommended.

Company: Somerville Productions
Show: SIZE
Venue: Theatre in the Round

Engaging

I really loved everything about this show. Most of the individual stories are quite heartwarming and well told. They all come together for a very moving show.

Company: Schmidtshow Productions
Show: Because I Said So
Venue: Rarig Center Arena

Charming

Different views on relationships with mothers, these all come together nicely. Shout-outs to Shannon, Kate, and Taj for strong, heart-felt performances.

Company: M-SHE Productions
Show: FOLKLORE
Venue: Rarig Center Arena

Loud But Gorgeious

Not a fan of loud music for the sake of being loud, so the earplugs were helpful. That said, this is a visually stunning piece, with stellar choreography. I couldn't take my eyes off the dancers as they retell their take on this classic. Maggie Culp is the choreographer to watch for. Great physical dance piece, and highly recommended.

Company: Jena Young Productions
Show: The Bisexual Unicorn and Other Mythological Creatures
Venue: Theatre in the Round

Enjoyable

Brian makes a great ring leader and moves this show at a nice pace. Each of the stories was unique and entertaining in their own right, with Brian telling his from a viewpoint not often heard. Good material and fine cast.

Company: Mermaid Productions
Show: Xena and Gabrielle Smash the Patriarchy
Venue: Theatre in the Round

Entertaining Throughout!

With Ariel and Nissa as the leads, how can you go wrong? You can't! The script is fresh, the cast is strong, and there are laughs throughout. Loved the fun jabs at the Con geeks! Great Fringe fare - highly recommended!

Company: One T Productions
Show: A Man's Guide for Appropriate Behavior in the 21st Century
Venue: Augsburg Studio

Great Discussion Piece

I enjoyed seeing this, as the topic is relevant to today's political and social climate. As previously noted, it's not so much a show as it is a panel discussion. Scot is a most gracious host and does a fine job leading the group and bringing the different viewpoints together. I don't recall ever going so see a Fringe show twice, but I will be attending another one of these. Nicely done!

Company: Rinky Dink Operations
Show: Mad as Nell, or How to Lose a Bly in Ten Days
Venue: Rarig Center Thrust

Crazy Good Fun

I enjoyed this one a lot, and these are some of my favorite Fringe players. Although I felt it could have used one more rehearsal (some stepping on lines), it was well executed. The cast did well with the nicely crafted script, and I found the historical aspect to be quite relevant. Catch this one!

Company: The Bearded Company
Show: Swords & Sorcery: The Improvised Fantasy Campaign
Venue: Theatre in the Round

Clever and fun

Great improv group. The cast played well off one another, and never dropped a beat.

Company: Fearless Comedy Productions
Show: Wilhelmina and Theodore’s Exquisite Victorian Adventure
Venue: Theatre in the Round

Great concept

Loved the concept, and the cast pulled it off nicely. Clever and often laugh-out-loud funny, this is quite engaging, especially if you're a Bill and Ted fan. Fast paced fun!
