2019 is the inaugural year for the Festival Artist Grant fund. This program, conceived by the Minnesota Fringe Artist Committee, is intended to limit financial risk and foster an atmosphere for both new and experienced producers for bold, dynamic innovation during the Minnesota Fringe Festival. Thanks to generous donors during Give to the Max, three Festival Artist Grants will be awarded up to $500 to cover producer fees. This grant does not offset the festival application fee. You'll have to pay when you apply. To apply for a Festival Artist Grant, submit a regular Fringe Festival application online, then complete the form below. Deadline for application is 5:00PM CST, Thursday, February 14, 2019. We strongly suggest filling out the application on a desktop or laptop rather than on a mobile device.
The Minnesota Fringe Artist Committee will award a maximum of three (3) Festival Artist Grants after review and consideration of the following:
- Does the applicant or their collaborators have prior experience in production or performing arts? (Note: prior producing or performing experience is not prerequisite for award)
- How will the Festival Artist Grant award benefit this producer/production?
- Does this producer/production bring unique artistic experience and/or champion underrepresented voices or themes when compared to our current local, national and international performing arts community? Could this production help cultivate new and first-time theater-going audiences?
- Will this grant subsidize risk that would otherwise be challenging for the producer to achieve considering revenue constraints, such as exploration of a new style, method, or genre of work?
The 2019 Artist Committee includes: Divya Maiya (Bollywood Dance Scene), John Gebretatose (HUGE Theater and Blackout Improv), Karim Muasher (NYC's Animal Engine devising duo), Natalie Rae Wass (frequent Fringe performer and creator), & Marinda Rodriguez (former dancer and Fringe board member).
