Unexpected But Needed
This show is a little rough around the edges, but it was refreshing in a way I was not expecting. Having grown up in the faith myself, I've found myself desperately trying to move farther and farther away from today's mainstream Christianity and the ugliness (political and otherwise) with which it now associates. I've consumed a lot of media where others like me share and lament their stories of falling away from belief because of this, and I admit that when I first decided to see this show that I misunderstood its premise and thought it would be similar. Instead, I got the opposite (but not in an overbearing or preachy way), and a reminder that the loud, angry, far-right proselytizers who purport to call themselves Christians are really not representative of the faith at all. I think I really needed that, and Robert's energetic storytelling style was a great vehicle to do it.
