enlightening; a must see
Istanboom is about a young woman who, constantly reminded of the impermanece of life, dives boldly nto the small moments of every day, like a soft penis or a ride on the subway. She experiments with life and with people, and at the same time quietly observes and absorbs life around her. In Istanboom, the voice of Derin. picks up on the profound echoes contained within the small choices Americans make each day to avoid conflict or offense in our interactions with other people, and contrasts them with the communal fear and readiness to laugh of the Turkish people. This play is a must see. It offers essential reflections on the American experience and glimpses into the life and psyche of a young Turkish woman. She is poised, hilarious, introspective, explosive, and graceful.
