Taken Far Away at the Fringe
Harrowing. Transportive. A dreamlike experience that left me needing air and answers. If you open yourself to the world Bridget Erickson and cast has polished, I guarantee you you will have one of the greatest Fringe experiences this year. Dark, demanding, and beautiful. A must see.
Company: Grand Island Theatre
Show: Hamlet, but Hamlet's a Chicken
Venue: Minnsky Theatre
This Fowl Gets No Foul
Wonderfully experimental and daringly fun. This young cast barrages the audience with clever musical numbers, hilarious meta humor, and, of course, chickens. The direction and adaptation is disciplined in its approach - Hamlet (the play) is still respected and maintains a structure for silliness. Do yourself a favor and see this show. An absolute treat.
Company: Berlin Productions
Show: I Never Knock
Venue: Augsburg Mainstage
I Never Want to See this Again
Fundamentally, there are no redeeming qualities to this production. However, terrible art is more constructive than neutral, unaffecting art. It is important to have pieces like this so that we can see firsthand what NOT to do moving forward in this medium. If you are looking to enjoy a show, I do not recommend I Never Knock. If you are looking to learn at the expense of unfocused actors, a catastrophically niche script, and dismal direction, this is the show for you.
