Ummm
Wow, I am very suspicious of the amount of reviews this has. I suspect fake reviews. It wasn’t that good. While some of the individual performances were engaging and funny, the overall show was not put together well at all. There’s whole plot points that should have been left out. The stand up during the talent show was weak and there was an awkward plug about their go fund me(?) also one of the characters was non binary and I didn’t want to make any assumptions about the actor playing them, but it made me nervous because I’ve seen cis performers take on roles of trans/non binary characters before and it’s a problem. I don’t know, there are better shows in the fest this year.

Beautiful, but needed a trigger warning
I was very moved by the work, but it felt to me like it needed some sort of verbal or written explicit trigger warning. I know the program has information about the show but even just adding the simple TW: sexual assault, violence, etc. could have saved some people from re-experiencing trauma. Wonderful movement and ensemble work though, absolutely gorgeous

Show: Wonder and Awe: A Play About Magic

I don’t know
It fell flat for me. The underscoring did most of the comedic work in my opinion. The moment in the beginning where they threaten, humiliate, and force the newcomer to play the piano reminded me viscerally of police brutality, except it was comedic without commentary, which was weird as hell. The one magic trick at the end is probably one intended for a proscenium stage and not a thrust, because it was pretty transparent. I don’t know, it was ok, It was funny, but again the underscoring pulled me through for most of the show.
