Great Performance, Problematic Direction

While the performances were stellar, Titus Andronicus is not a play that needs to be produced right now, and this is a prime example of that. As a non-binary, queer survivor of sexual assault and rape I found it horrifying, unnecessary, and insulting to watch a young woman be raped onstage for twenty minutes, regardless of how that was abstracted. I sincerely hope that The Band Group reconsiders whether or not they are the right people to be directing the stories of women, survivors of trauma, and trans or non-binary folx. Also for the love of god people, content warnings are a must.
