1992: Mistakes Were Made!

A hilarious hour full of heart

Jason is one of my faves and it was great to see him open up and take us on this journey with him. He has some of the best storytelling timing out there and the packed audience leapt up with a standing O at the end. Def check this out!

Heartfelt with humor

Great delivery of a read monologue—many moments that made us think and reflect on our own high school experiences. Could have wrapped up very successfully without the letter to the future self (which was longer /more detailed than necessary…?)

All of us can recall either being bullied or being the bully, and some can probably claim both. Jason approaches his experience with lots of humor and a wonderful delivery. This show had me laughing throughout, even as I could relate to the trauma of being bullied for so many years. This was a great hour spent at the Fringe!

He is a good storyteller

To many, this is a "tale as old as time" Because of the familiarity that many share with pieces of this story, it is good to be here. Jason is a great storyteller, and it shows. It gets a little long and repetitive toward the end.

Enjoyable, but cliched

Jason is both a stand-up comic and a storyteller ... this piece relied more on his storytellling! Jason is obviously a pro, but he read much of the script (even though it was purportedly from his own life). This led to less engagement! The story was cliched throughout, though the ending was heartfelt and meaningful.

Stefano will RISE AGAIN

I chose this show randomly- it was very funny and the audience was CACKLING. If you're deep in Days of Our Lives lore you'll especially enjoy this. I laughed a lot and also appreciate being able to reflect alongside Jason at the end.

Jason's storytelling is both H-I-Larious and heartbreaking, snarky and cringeworthy, redemptive and triumphant, revengeful and full of forgiveness.

Get Well, Madonna!

Who hasn’t fantasized about headlining a high-school reunion and taking the bullies from yesteryear down a notch? I’m angry at myself for not ever watching Days of Our Lives. I feel I would have gotten another layer of the humor provided in this delightfully performed send up of his meaner (and reformed) classmates. I would have enjoyed a little more eye contact and audience engagement, but that’s the only criticism I have to offer. We’ve all encountered (or been) these classmates once upon a time, so this show has great appeal. Madonna’s recent health scare makes his “Spotlight” references even more timely and topical. I hope his vision of meeting Madonna and fist-bumping over an exchanged smile happens sooner rather than later. He deserves it.

It Would Be A Mistake To Miss This Show

1992: Mistakes were made had a stellar opening night to a big crowd at Xperimental. Jason is a regular performer and host of The Moth and the piece really felt like ten strong Moth sets one after another. Stories of perms and roasting school bullies feed into the larger narrative of being true to yourself. Jason sets up the different years of the story through what was going on in Madonna’s career and the soap Days of Our Lives at the time, and later ties those non-sequiter seeming elements together so beautifully. And although this is mostly just one long story there are a few small, subtle lighting cues that all hit at the right moments.

WOW!!! Jason is the Trapper Keeper King of storytelling. Check out Jason's bio! I've seen him perform several times, and he's absolutely pee-your-pants funny. His Fringe shows are different than his stand-up comedy which allow him to do a deep dive into his life experience and give the audience all the feels. At last year's Fringe, his show was a tribute to Louie Anderson. The way he seamlessly wove in heart and humor was so very unexpected, tender, and hilarious. I had high hopes for this customized-for-Fringe show, and he crushed it. Jason takes you back in time to his days in elementary school and eventually brings you to the present. He gets real as he recounts incredibly poignant moments layered with snark, 80s/90s nostalgia, and situational comedy that punches. The audience was roaring at times and quietly sucking air moments later. In the end, it's all poetic justice. I was so very satisfied. I just want to know, where is Kirk now?

Best show yet

I can see why Jason's last show is noted to likely sell out. I was immensely moved by his story and the way he told it. Well written, well paced. Fun side stories woven in and out to make the show layered and creatively told. I laughed from start to finish, all the while letting Jason take me through a journey of so many more emotions and memories of my own. It's a must see and you'll be lucky to nab one of the last tickets.

Terrific storytelling and comedy!

As a storyteller myself, it has been such a treat to watch Jason's star rise. This look back on his high school days was very funny and very relatable. There were times when I thought he was a bit vindictictive towards his enemies; then again, there are a number of folks I would love to tell off, but could never do it with that much sarcasm and humor. I loved his letter to his 14 year old self at the end. Kudos!

Now I want a perm

Hilarious storytelling and impeccable timing on this one. Though it’s more a story jam than a full fledged show, still definitely worth the time!
